Katy Perry has sparked another political controversy. Just days after her Barack Obama joke upset many, Katy doubled down on her controversial Met Gala look with an Instagram post featuring the New York Times. Katy’s strange red gown from the event was featured below the fold on the front page of the Times, but she’s catching flak because of another image in the newspaper.
A picture of a police officer set on fire by a molotov cocktail during May Day riots in Paris had many questioning Katy’s judgement in her post. Many expressed outrage and disgust at her decision to apparently hype up her Met Gala look while ignoring the political issues further up in the paper.
Fans quickly rushed to Katy’s defense, claiming that she was being ironic in her post. They said she was actually trying to call attention to the ridiculous fact that her look was on the front page with news of the violence in France.
Was Katy’s post really an eye roll at the Times’ coverage of her dress? Or was she really enjoying a little exposure?
See her post and some comments below and decide for yourself.

To promote her upcoming Netflix series “13 Reasons Why,” Selena Gomez sat down with her mom and the series’ writer Brian Yorkey for an exclusive New York Times roundtable. Lady Gaga’s new era is quickly being defined by Twitter fights. The Mother Monster has already gone after The Chainsmokers and Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney for their lackluster reviews of her new work. Now, she’s set her sights on a music reviewer who didn’t have many good things to say about “Joanne” in his review.
With her new album, Selena hopes to get fans talking about the music. “I need my work to just outshine all of this because the noise is driving me crazy, and it’s preventing me from leaving my home,” she says. “When I walk into a place and people look at me, they don’t see an artist.”
On Justin’s recent success – which she reportedly talked to the Times about while trying to avoid saying her ex’s name – Selena said she was completely unsurprised and the potential she saw was part of what drew her into a relationship with him in the first place.
“While people were writing that I was stupid for being in it, this is what I always saw in him,” she said. “I’m like, duh!”
Do you think Selena’s new music is good enough to start establishing her as an artist? Is it good enough to divert attention from her personal life?
