Alex Pall and Drew Taggart of The Chainsmokers sat down with BBC Radio 1’s Greg James to address their recent Lady Gaga encounter. The duo expressed a negative reaction to “Perfect Illusion” in an interview with Rolling Stone, which prompted Lady Gaga to time her response with the release of “A-YO.” The shade was not lost on The Chainsmokers and they discuss it in this new interview.
“She promoted her new song while throwing shade at us,” Alex recalls. The duo seems to feel as though the song was targeted at them, but it was written long before their beef with Lady Gaga. “The song kind of sounds like a diss track. The song is about smoking us.”
“I’m like a loud mouth New Yorker,” Alex says in defense of his original “Perfect Illusion” diss. “It sucks, we’re so new to this whole exposure, attention thing.” He then uses Patrick Carney’s more recent bash of the song to promote the strength in numbers argument. “And the dude with Black Keys agrees with me too so we’re three now,” he adds.
