As Halloween approaches, it’s once again time for the inevitable celebrity scandals involving racially insensitive Halloween costumes. With a week left before the unholy holiday, Lili Reinhart has started things off early. The “Riverdale” actress faced heavy criticism on Twitter after she tweeted about a potential costume idea.
Gigi Hadid is still trying to make nice with Asia. A video of Gigi mocking the eyes on a Buddha cookie surfaced in February, and it’s dogged the model ever since. Because of the vid, Twitter users from China recently raised an uproar after Gigi announced that she was headed to Shanghai for the 2017 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
Gigi took to Weibo, an internal Chinese social media service, to apologize for the video. But she was criticized for not apologizing on Twitter or Instagram, where more of the world could see it. None of that tension has stopped Vogue Japan from putting Gigi on the cover of its latest issue.
Gigi is being called a “Free Spirit” on the cover, and a bunch of black and white pics from the shoot have her looking like an eccentric millionaire trying to catch some Dalmatians. Tons of animal prints and fur didn’t scare off the dog that appears alongside Gigi in some of the shots.

Gigi Hadid has issued a very official apology after Chinese fans expressed outrage that she was coming to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Shanghai, China. Many of China’s fashion fanatics don’t want her there because of a video in which Gigi mocks a Buddha cookie by squinting her eyes.
Gigi’s apology was shared via Weibo, a social media site largely exclusive to China. In it, she offers up an I’m-still-learning defense as she takes a stand against racism in favor of inclusivity.
“I want you all to know that it was never my intent to offend anyone through my actions, and I sincerely apologize to those who were hurt or felt let down by me,” Gigi wrote.

This year, the annual event is being held in Shanghai, China’s largest city.
