The nominations for the 2017 Radio Disney Music Awards are out and Justin Bieber leads by a hair. The “Sorry” singer is up for six awards and is closely followed by his ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez, and Meghan Trainor, both of whom have five nominations. While the RDMAs aren’t as official as, let’s say, the GRAMMYs, the nominations seem more indicative of fan and radio reception of songs and artists that wouldn’t elsewhere be recognized. The “Best Collaboration” category offers a brightly competitive and inclusive list featuring: Ariana Grande and John Legend, Charlie Puth and Selena Gomez, Machine Gun Kelly and Camila Cabello, Steve Aoki and Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik and Taylor Swift.
Meanwhile, Nick Jonas finally has a chance to be recognized for his complicated last year as a “Best Male Artist” nominee. Better than one chance is two and Nick’s “Bacon” is up for “Best Song To Lip Sync To.” He is, however, in direct competition with his brother for that award as DNCE’s “Cake By The Ocean” is also nominated.
Noah Cyrus even got a couple nods for her debut single, “Make Me (Cry).” The track is nominated for “Best Breakup Song” and it also secured Noah a place at the table for “Best New Artist.”
The 2017 RDMAs will be held April 29 with the ceremony airing one day later at 7 pm ET on the Disney Channel. Voting is now open on the award show’s website.
