The first charts of 2018 are out and Billboard’s Top 200 albums have Taylor Swift stuck in a rut. After a three-week run at number one with some of 2017’s best figures, Taylor wasn’t able to hold her ground against the likes of U2 or Luke Bryan. It seems that Taylor’s hopes of reclaiming the top spot are slipping like snakes through her fingers thanks to the new top dog.
Taylor Swift’s Verified Fan program with Ticketmaster is rolling out now. Ahead of tickets being made available for the general public on Taylor’s birthday next week, the diehard Swifties who have been earning their way to the front of the line are finally getting their hands on their tickets. Apparently, some of them still weren’t prepared for price tag.
The old Taylor Swift is dead, but the new one is alive and well on the top of the charts for the third consecutive week. “Reputation” starts off its new week on top with 147,000 equivalent album units sold which, according to Billboard, is down 43% from last week.
Like any good capitalist, Taylor Swift made sure to create an artificial scarcity for “Reputation,” her album that dropped on November 10. The singer helped ensure her record-breaking sales figures by keeping the album off of streaming services for the rest of the month. That had executives stressing out, but everyone can finally take a deep breath. “Reputation” is now available for streaming.
Taylor Swift doesn’t have to give a crap about her bad reputation. That’s because the singer’s album is sitting atop the Billboard charts for the second week in a row, solidifying “Reputation” as a force to be reckoned with when it comes to sales even though the effort saw a sharp decline in units sold.
