Yara Shahidi On Her Harvard-Educated Future: “I Still Want To Be A Superhero”

Yara Shahidi is 25 under 25Yara Shahidi is just one of the 25 actors, musicians and activists Rolling Stone thinks will change the world. The “Black-ish” star has been very vocal about her support of the Black Lives Matter movement and her role model status even helped get her a recommendation letter to college from Michelle Obama.

“There is a lot of pressure on many young actors to make that decision of acting or going to school,” Yara says. Luckily for “Black-ish” fans, the young actress will be attending one of the eight colleges she was accepted to and acting in her new series. “I like to think I know a lot, but I don’t. I’m motivated to learn more. At the crux of [my major], at the crux of acting and at the crux of everything I do is a desire to understand humans – [and to become] active in a way that touches anybody or even activates anybody.”

“Obviously I would want people to like the music, but in terms of being like Drake, how he’s always pushing the culture forward musically? I know what my strengths are, and I think that would have given me a hernia or something,” she adds. In fact, it sounds like Lorde doesn’t have the rosiest perspective on her early success.
