Zendaya went out of her way to dismiss dating rumors a few months back when she and her “Spider-Man: Homecoming” co-star Tom Holland began spending a lot of time together. If Tom’s latest Instagram story is any indication, however, something tells us it’s too early to count out a potential romance between these two.

Zendaya and Tom Holland found themselves denying numerous dating rumors on Thursday afternoon. It all began after PEOPLE reported that the two found love with each other during the filming of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and have been keeping things “out of the public eye.”
After denying the dating rumors between herself and Trevor Donovan, Paris Jackson came to the defense of Zendaya and her role in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” The defensive response from the model came after author Jack Posobiec tweeted out his unwanted opinion of Zendaya’s casting.
The Disney star’s role in the Marvel film has been a hot topic with fans suspecting that she had been cast as Mary Jane Watson, although the rumors have been shot down repeatedly by the actress. In a not-so-big plot twist Zendaya’s character, created for this particular franchise, does have the initials ‘MJ’ and because of that fans feel the film is trying to be to0 politically correct.
Zendaya has been front and center throughout the promo run for “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” even though its trailer offered no answers to the questions swirling around the true nature of her role. While Zendaya has said she would’ve done the movie if she had one line, a new report makes it sound like she doesn’t have many more than that.
A new piece from Vulture outlines Zendaya’s real role in the film. Despite the controversy about her being Spider-Man’s romantic lead, Mary-Jane Watson, she’s actually just comic relief.
“Zendaya’s character, Michelle, is one of several high-schoolers in Peter Parker’s loose-knit friend group, popping up every so often at the end of a scene to say something snarky,” Kyle Buchanan writes. “She is not present for most of the movie’s major scenes or action set pieces, has no bearing on the plot, and disappears for wide swaths of the film. Spider-Man never saves her, and Peter Parker never kisses her: In fact, he barely seems to know she exists.”
While Zendaya’s zingers promise to be worth a laugh and she brings some healthy wokeness to the movie, the real female lead is Laura Harrier. She plays a character named Liz who Spider-Man is trying to catch in his web.
Despite the news, Zendaya did get a chance to flex her acting muscles on a Spider-Man project. Vanity Fair had her perform a dramatic reading of the original theme song from the 1960s web-slinger cartoon.

With about a week until “Spider-Man: Homecoming” hits theaters, the cast attended the film’s world premiere on Wednesday night. From Tom Holland to Robert Downey, Jr., everyone was dressed in their best but it was Zendaya that did not come to play.
Wearing a flowing pink gown that included a thigh-high slit, the actress was the star of the show and even Michael Keaton couldn’t stop himself from helping her shine.

With less than a month before the release of the newest version of the “Spider-Man” franchise and Zendaya is busy promoting the film. The actress appeared on “Good Morning America” on Tuesday to once again tell fans that she is not Mary Jane Watson and reveal her deeper connection with the film.
“I keep trying to tell everybody my name is Michelle, in the movie, that is what my name is,” the Disney star swore. “She’s bit of a loner, but I think she likes it that way,” Zendaya added about her character that she continues to say is not actually Mary Jane. Alhough the actress isn’t playing Spidey’s love interest in the film, Zendaya revealed that she had her own love connection involving the superhero.
“My first date was to ‘Spider-Man’ and I was obsessed with it immediately,” Zendaya admitted. “He’s a real person, right? He’s not just a superhero all the time. He’s, at the end of the day, Peter Parker who is a 15-year-old kid.”
