On Sunday night, Lady Gaga literally jumped into the Super Bowl LI halftime show to give a performance dedicated to her fans. Before hitting the stage, the singer shared a special message confirming that the 1- minute performance would be hers and hers alone.
Other than singing “Million Reasons,” the singer avoided music from her “Pop Art” and “Joanne” albums. There was heavy speculation about what Lady Gaga would be doing to shock and wow the crowd during a heated political time, but the singer managed to refrain from making any huge statements. She did, however, begin her performance by singing “God Bless America,” a song written by Irving Berlin, a Russian immigrant escaping Jewish persecution.
