Zayn Recalls Getting Treated Like A Terrorist Upon Arriving To The U.S. For The First Time featureZayn was supposed to chat with the Evening Standard about his new line of rock star looks from Versace, but the singer didn’t spend much time talking about his new Versus collection and instead focused on his girlfriend Gigi Hadid and recounting his first-time experiences as an immigrant in America.

Security is a primary concern for Zayn given his fame. But, even in the early days of his One Direction fame, security could also be an obstacle–like the first few times he came to U.S. and got flagged for his Pakistani name at airport security.

“The first time I came to America, I had three security checks before I got on the plane; first they said that I’d been randomly selected, and then they said it was something to do with my name, it was flagging something on their system,” Zayn explains. “Then, when I landed, it was like a movie. They kept me there for three hours, questioning me about all kinds of crazy stuff. I was 17, my first time in America, jet-lagged off the plane, confused. The same thing happened the next time too.”
