LIVE with Kelly & Michael under! Photos HERE! On telling girls not to wear make-up: 'If I could tell myself a couple years ago like, 'Hey you don't need that much make-up, take it off'.. I'd love to go back in time and just not wear that much. So I wanted to show girls like, hey, you don't have to do that to your face.'
On her new record: 'I did do one collaboration, I did a song with Cher Lloyd.. it's just a girl-anthem, it has a lot of attitude, a lot of sass. I just thought she'd be perfect on it. All the other songs are by myself; I co-wrote with a lot of people. Some of the songs are very catchy pop songs that will get stuck in your head... and there's other songs that are a lot heavier than some of the other things I've released in the past.'
On her past: 'When I was younger, I didn't really treat people that great. I was growing up, I had hormones, and I was overworked, and in the midst of a ton of other issues. And.. I wasn't nice to people.. It's something that I had to learn the hard way. I didn't have many people around me at the time telling me 'Hey, you're being a little brat.' And now, I do, so if I'm getting grumpy, I have people around me that'll say 'straighten up, because you're better than that.''
'Heart Attack' director Chris Applebaum told MTV that Demi did something that he's only seen Celine Dion do before her: sing live: 'I do also want to note that in 20 years of directing music videos, I have seen every single artist lip-sync to their video with the exception of two people. One was Celine Dion, who said, 'If you don't do that, you sing so that people can see your throat move and people can feel the emotion.' And two, it was Demi Lovato. Demi is the real deal. People felt it when they were around her.
Her performance is very interesting. I've worked with some of the biggest artists in the world, multiple times, and Demi is a really unique performer. She's extremely emotional. She's extremely complicated, wonderful, amazing, beautiful girl with a huge heart and conflicts within herself that she's dealing with very openly. And I feel like her performances are the visual equivalent of taking all of that, throwing it into a can of soda and shaking it up so that when you pull the top everything kind of explodes.
Suspex member Jason Evigan told MTV about Demi Lovato: 'For her age she's seen a lot, she's had a lot of big ups and big downs. She's matured very fast and I think she naturally skews in that direction. I think without realizing it she puts herself at the level with Pink. She's up there mentally with those people. She's a very smart girl. She didn't want to go and dwell. She talks about how triumphant she's been.
I think she's matured into a woman. I think this album, even though she's a young lady, her music this album is going to take her to like a Kelly Clarkson now. She's gonna be like a Pink after this album. All the songs are credible, there's no cheese. It's all real classic songs. I think she has one of the best voices out there right now. This album's gonna really show that and bring her to that next level where she's not a Disney star.'
''Two pieces' is a classic. That's a very timeless song. We wrote it with Livvi Franc. It's like this lullaby that turns into this huge rock chorus, pop rock. So the chorus kind of has that 'Heart Attack' huge feel where these verses are very melodic and they're swimming through almost like a ballerina thing.'
Evigan also helped conceive 'Made in the USA,' which he considers Demi's answer to Miley Cyrus' massive 'Party in the USA.' 'It's like our love was made in the USA. It sounds kind of cheesy but it could be the biggest song of the year because it's that 'Party in the USA' kind of vibe like love song.'
