Prototype 2 Troubleshooting Guide

Before we start troubleshooting, first we make sure that system meets the minimum requirement for any specific game. Hence, if you are facing any of the problems mentioned in this guide, first check if your system configs are as follows:

Prototype 2 Recommended System Requirements:

  • CPU: 2.4 GHz Quad Core Intel or AMD processor
  • RAM: 2GB system memory
  • Graphics: DirectX 10 compatible 1 GB graphics card, Nvidia 400 series or AMD 5000 series or better.

  • RAM: 1 GB system memory
  • Graphics: DirectX 9 compatible card with 512 MB RAM, Nvidia 200-series or Radeon 3000-series or better.
  • Operating system: Windows XP Service Pack 2
  • DirectX compatible sound card
  • 12 GB of free hard disk space

1. Fix Prototype 2 CTD (Crash to Desktop) while launching or starting the game:

Many games come across this problem. The game just crashes or shut down while launching it. This is probably the cause of your graphic card or its drivers. In this case you must try the following as a fix:

  • Update your graphic card drivers. If you are using Nvidia, download its drivers from here and if its And if its ATI, get the drivers from [B]here . Also dont forget to turn off SLI / Crossfire before launching the game back.
  • Open your graphics control panel, turn off one of the two GPUs and try running the game on any one.
  • Update or Re-install DirectX
  • If your config is as low as the minimum requirement of this game, than run the game on in Windowed Mode. You can run the game in windowed mode with the help of 3danalyzer.
  • If you still facing the same problem, Disable V-sync, disable Antivruses, disable Windows defender, anti-aliasing and filtering, also disable all unwanted background process from task manager and run the game.
  • If yet the game crashes, simply run the game in compatibility mode. Also don’t forget to check mark ‘Disable Desktop Composition’ from the compatibility tab.

2. Fix installation problem on Windows 7, installer crashes.

3. Fix Sound issues with Prototype 2

If you are facing any kind of sound problem with the game like there is No Sound, or very low sound, follow the below given steps:

  • Open Control Panel.
  • Change interface by clicking on ‘Show by icons’ or simply click on Hardware and Sounds.
  • Now click on Sound.
  • Go to ‘Communications’ Tab, click on last option ‘Do Nothing’ and click Ok.

If you are still facing the sound problem, simply Update or Re-install the Sound drivers.

4. Unable to install Prototype 2

There could be many reasons if your game is unable to install on your system, apart from the above mentioned ‘Windows 7 installer’ issue.

  • If you tried installing the game and it fails due to some unknown reason, now before re-installing the game next time make sure that you uninstalled/remove each and every file from the previous installation. See if there is any listing in the Add and Remove programs, if it is, uninstall from there. Go to Program Files, click on Activision Folder and delete the prototype 2 folder. Delete all files related to the game. Once done, try re-installing the game now.

5. Fix lagging, freezing and FPS issues with Prototype 2

There could be many reasons for making the game freeze, lag or getting very low FPS. In such cases you should try the below mentioned fixes:

  • Freezing and lagging issues can be solved easily by turning off vsync and antialiasing from your graphic card’s control panel.
  • If you are all time gamer and you have knowledge about the following than you can also try turning On tripple buffering and V-sync using the D3DOverrider software.
  • If still you face lag or freezing issues, press Alt+Tab while the game launched, right click on Task bar, open Task Manager, click on Processes Tab, right-click on Prototype 2.exe. Now set the priority for this game above normal or higher.
  • There are also many Antivirus programs that interfere most of the times with video games. So better you should better disable them before launching the game.

6. Prototype 2 Wont Launch. 

After successful installation of the game, if you are not able to launch the game, follow these fixes:

  • Disable Antivirus and Windows Defender.
  • Delete the desktop shortcut, go to installation folder, and double click the Prototype 2 exe file directly. If the game launches successfully, right this exe file and create shortcut on desktop for future reference.

7. Xbox or any other game controller not working with Prototype 2

If you are not able to use Xbox 360 or any other controllers with your pc while playing this game, you need to make some changes in settings manually:

  • Open Control Panel. Enable Xbox 360 Controller if it is not.
  • Now Launch the game, go to Options, click on Controls, and click on Customize Controls. Now select the attached controller from here.
  • If yet the controller wont work, we need to wait until there is some patch released officially.

8. Prototype 2 Crashes with Nvidia or ATI graphics card. 

If you are the one of those users having Nvidia or Ati/Amd graphic card and facing the crash problem, check the below solutions:

  • If you are using Nvidia Cards, launch Nvidia control panel, click on manage 3d settings. Here turn on the ‘Threaded Optimization’.
  • If you are one of the ATI card user, You will need to uninstall/remove Catalyst Control Center in order to fix the crash problem.
