Ed Sheeran had a busy weekend. Aside from his performance with Taylor Swift and spilling the beans about the duo’s upcoming music video, he also fielded a question about the possibility of performing at the royal wedding. Ed’s music is a certified marriage phenomenon, and friends, both famous and not, love to get him drunk enough to play a tune at their nuptials.
Everyone wants know if there’s a chance Ed could be invited to play at the impending royal wedding. Prince Harry of Windsor is set to marry American actress Meghan Markle, and the question on everyone’s mind is whether or not Ed will be there with his guitar.
“I get asked this all the time like I know the royal family. I’ve met Harry once. I barely know him,” Ed said in an interview, clearly put out by the question. “That was in 2011 at his gran’s Jubilee, and it was like, ‘Hey.'” Even though he barely knows the Prince, he said he might be interested.
“Yeah, if I was free, I probably would,” Ed confessed, but he made it clear that the idea still sounds outlandish to him. He seems to think it’s a peculiar American habit to ask him about the royal family.
“I feel like all Americans ask English people like, ‘Hey, do you know the queen?'” he said. “And like, well I have met her, that is quite a true fact, but I don’t know Harry that well.”
If Ed’s interview about Taylor’s new music video is any indication, he’s not a very good liar. So, it seems like he hasn’t gotten an invite as a guest or a performer–yet.
