How to Connect Any Game Controller to your Windows And Mac Computer

Most common controllers that are used on PC’s are the USB Logitech controllers which support DirectInput Protocol. You can use these in most of the games.   1. DualShock 1 and 2: PS1 and PS2

These are old controllers which do not use USB therefore; you have to use an adaptor. We will recommend you to use DualShock 3 which is updated version of DualShock 1 and 2 with same features but with USB support. It also has wireless support.

  1. DualShock 3: PS3

Windows need a custom driver to set up DualShock 3. For Mac OS, there is no requirement of custom drivers. You can directly connect it via USB cable of Bluetooth.

  1. PS4:

Windows support PS4 controller both ways via USB and wirelessly. However, for using controllers wirelessly, an adapter is required. MAC OS is also supported by DualShock controllers by default. It also supports wireless connections.

  1. Xbox One Controller: Xbox 1

Coming from the same flagship, Windows and Xbox controllers are works out of the box together without any complications. You just need to plug in and that’s all you need to do. Furthermore, if you are a Windows 10 user, you can even update your controller.

For MAC Users, you will need 360Controller Driver for using this Controller. This is not wireless but support USB connection.

For Windows, it is supported by default for USB connectivity. However, for using it wireless, adapter will be required. Unfortunately, due to kernel extension issues wireless support is not available for MAC OS. MAC will require a custom driver to use the wired connection.

This one is little complicated. You will need extra software. Specifically, some Custom drivers and adapter.

  1. Nintendo Switch Pro Controller: It works pretty easily.

You just need to connect it wirelessly via Bluetooth to your Windows or Mac and it will then, work automatically. However, you need to set it up in Steam.

Guitar Hero Controller has many different versions. Most of the versions work with an adapter. As they are not widely used, we will recommend you to always follow the instructions and do a little research before using them. There are also many Third Parties also. Most of these Controllers use same standard XInput connections.
