Motorola Moto G (2nd Gen) Review

Motorola was pioneer company to introduce first mobile phones to the world and still world uses Motorola invented wireless device. Over from past few years Motorola backed out from the market and lost in the competition but after owned by Google seems Motorola is back on track. Motorola’s Moto G was first smartphone launched soon after owning by Google. Moto G was incredibly successful in the market and broke most of the opening sale record set by any smartphone. Motorola is now back in the market and to sustain the competition, it should innovate itself at regular interval. Market is crowded with huge market leaders like Apple, Samsung and Sony and to breach the competition, Moto do need to target high and mid range segment of smartphone.

Moto has re-initiated its Moto G version to cope up with other smartphones. Moto G 2014 is revisited with more advancement in hardware configuration, display properties, improved camera and many other features which we are going to dig out in detail. Price of new Moto G is wisely tagged and will serve for mid-range segment. Let’s find out whether Moto G 2014 has potential to create madness among users like its predecessor. Motorola Moto G (2nd Gen) Review

Design & Packaging:

Moto G and Moto G 2014 have very similar body design, very hard to distinguish except of body size. If you are new to Moto G 2014 you will not be able to distinguish among these two smartphones. Design factor in previous flagship was impressive and same is carried in new smartphone. Mediocre smartphones are not meant to have premium body design but still new Moto G manages to flaunt its rigid, tough with clean and efficient structure. Making use of two different kinds of plastic of good quality is basic ergonomics by Moto. New Moto G is little late to appear in the market as competition is tough with already released Xiaomi Redmi 1S and Asus Zenfone 5.

New Moto G is simple in structure with having huge display on front protected by Gorilla Glass 3. Above the display is housed with common set of earpiece, ambient and proximity light sensors and front camera hardware. Earpiece of new Moto G which also works as loudspeaker and is only visible feature on the front of new Moto G compare to its predecessor. Below space is given with loudspeaker of the phone similar we saw in Moto E. Keys like Home, Menu and Back are included in display itself like its predecessor.

Back of the phone is rubberized plastic body which is user replaceable means you can replace your back panel with customized body with different colors and patterns alike Moto X. Back has primary camera followed with flash and center space is occupied with Motorola logo curved inside and bottom back space is clean and neat. Sides of the phone is simple as it has chrome finished Power key and Volume rocker buttons on right and left side is vacant with no hardware buttons on it. Upper side of the phone has 3.5mm audio jack enhancement and next to it sits active microphone which works for noise cancellation. Below side is housed with microUSB port and primary microphone. MicroUSB port supports USB host, which means it will allow you to connect peripherals like mouse, USB sticks and keyboard.

Display / Screen:

Phone is launched to target average budget market segment and to match this segment new Moto G is also housed with 720p HD display. Display is used with IPS technology to improve display properties like color accuracy, brightness and viewing angle. Compare to Moto G display of new Moto G is little weak when we compare pixel density of both the smartphones. Moto G was given with 330 ppi pixel density whereas new Moto G is given with 294ppi pixel density.

Display of new Moto G is given with Gorilla Glass 3 protection, so now forget problem of scratches on your display. Brightness and color saturation of the display is good but white balance is little weak of the display. Viewing angles of IPS technology powered smartphone is fine so do is on new Moto G. So in all new Moto G is given with good display properties.

Software and UI:

As Motorola is owned by Google so there is no reason to worry or review OS section. We are more intended to look what changes Motorola has made in UI of its new Moto G. New flagship is running on latest Android 4.4.4 kitkat and is obvious that it will be ready to get new Android L update soon after the launch of new OS. UI of new Moto G is same as of stock Android which provides smooth touch experience and minimum strain on hardware. Customize your home screen with quick menu settings and presence of Google’s Daydream helps to get entertain on your device as well. Assist app, Alert and Motorola Migrate are Motorola’s own application to personalize your settings regarding DND, emergency messaging and porting data from old phone to new phone.
