FlipKart apologized for the errors on Big Billion Day, Stands Still the Boss in E-Commerce in India

The company that was founded in the year 2007, with a dream to pull 5 billion has now reached the spot where the founders assumed. Flipkart was an online book store which was started by the core founders Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal. These two guys had an experience working at and then came up with an idea to start an online bookstore with the name of Flipkart. As the idea of starting a book store was because there is always the minimal risk of investing the amount for the book.

The yesterday had their 7th birthday or 7th year in the corporation serving people with consumer products. 6th October was the date when was founded and so the directors planned to incorporate the idea of celebrating the seventh year as the ‘A Billion Day Sale’. People at Flipkart were working too hard to achieve this day and by making this day as a big day for Flipkart. But unfortunately things went wrong, what exactly happened nobody knows. There was nothing wrong at Flipkart but was wrong with people.

When you have lots of products on your store and you have kept an offer for straight 30-40% off then just assume what could be the scenario. The same thing happened with Flipkart which people took in a wrong way and pulled Flipkart for annoyance. The 6th October sale was an extreme celebration for the success of Flipkart in the other way, Flipkart even put more men on work, bought many servers to avoid crash of site, slotted more people in each category and made the perfect arrangement for public offers. But what was it that was actually wrong. Arrangement of this big day was almost done and the people working hard at the Flipkart were working on it since couple of months to make this day happen.

The Flipkart server crashed, deals and offers were scammed (as people think but it’s not), prices offered differ when bought or added to buying list, prices changed before the billion day occurred and many more things went wrong. These problems which people faced were actually more than 60% wrong. is the India’s No. 1 online e-commerce website for generic audience who wants to buy or shop online. The company that was just started 7-8 years back has become the king in the market with its hard work and business strategies. There are always people with problem under their nose if somebody runs fast, also have some of the hurdles in the way when it is still running fast.

Opposing companies always try to push harder to compete the other competitors, we are not aiming anyone but giving an idea on how the problems were converted in to business strategy by others. Reading this, you can understand the big picture that was hiding under your eyelid and you couldn’t think of it.

And though we saw unprecedented interest in our products and traffic like never before, we also realized that we were not adequately prepared for the sheer scale of the event. We didn’t source enough products and deals in advance to cater to your requirements. To add to this, the load on our server led to intermittent outages, further impacting your shopping experience on our site.

An unprecedented 1.5 million people shopped at Flipkart yesterday. While we stand humbled by the sheer faith that such a large number of customers have shown in us, we are unhappy that we were unable to live up to the expectations of millions more who wanted to buy from us yesterday. And this is not acceptable to us.

Delighting you, and every single one of our customers, is absolutely the top most priority for Flipkart and we have worked very hard over the last seven years to earn your trust. Yesterday, we failed that trust. We have learnt some valuable lessons from this and have started working doubly hard to address all the issues that cropped up during this sale.

Everything that we have achieved at Flipkart is purely on the basis of our customer’s trust and faith. This is why we come to work each day and continue to remain extremely passionate about building the best possible customer experience for Indian consumers. We failed to live up to this promise yesterday and would like to apologise once again to every single customer for our failure.
