HTC has officially launched the HTC One M9 today at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The phone was around in rumors since couple of weeks now and finally is official. HTC One M9 made its leak in many promo videos before. The things that we saw and hear around us were really good, but the official launch disappointed us a little bit with its design part.
There are some minor changes to the phone rather than those; there are no significance differences in the looks of the phone comparing to the last years HTC One M8. The front of the phone looks exact same as before and has a similar structured uni-body construction with two tone color. HTC One M9 has Boomsound speakers on the front but there is a new addition of feature to these speakers from Dolby known as Dolby Audio Surround.
Although the front of the phone looks alike, there are some changes to the sides where the buttons are located. The Volume buttons are now shifted in the middle of the sides of the phone. The Power button has also shifted on the sides from the top now. It would be easier to lock or unlock the phone rather reaching for the top now. The sides of the phone also has a mirror polished finish that looks premium and adds a great look to the phone. Apart from the design, the phone has even Powerful Specifications.
When looking at the back of the phone, the back of the phone is hair brushed and there is a bigger camera lens on the back with Dual-led flash. There is no more Duo Camera on the back. HTC escaped the ultra pixel on the back and used a 20MP camera which can shoot photos at 5248 x 3936 pixels. The ultrapixel camera is now used on the front of the phone as a selfie camera that will take great quality pictures. The camera on the rear is capable of recording the video and clicking snaps at the same time. This phone can record 2160p videos at 30fps which is the 4K resolution by name. It can also record 1080p videos at 60fps and also can record the 720p videos at 120fps giving the camera a slo-mo feature.
HTC have not made any changes to the display of the phone as it stays of the same size at 5.0 inch with the same resolution 1080 x 1920 pixels and the Super LCD 3 comes with a 441PPI density. The top of the display is now protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 4. The screen to body ratio of the phone has increased by 2% comparing to the last years One M8.
The processor of the phone is updated and now there is more powerful processor running under the hood. The Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processor is used to power this new smartphone. The Snapdragon 810 is a 64bit chipset which is an Octa-core processor where the 4 cores of the processor are running at 2.0Ghz on the Cortex A57 whilst the other 4 cores are clocked at 1.5Ghz on the Cortex A53. The Graphic Processing Unit Adreno 430 on this chip is strong too for running almost anything upto upscaling the graphics and even running the 4K resolution videos. Comparing to its predecessor One M8, the processor and GPU is now very strong and can handle all the apps, HD games and almost anything you throw at it.
Now the One M9 comes with 3GB RAM for better apps handling and running more apps without lag so the multitasking will be buttery smooth. The HTC One M8 used to offer the 16GB or 32GB internal storage option but now on the HTC One M9, there is only one version which is 32GB and you can expand the storage as well with the help of a microSD card upto 128GB.
The HTC One M9 comes with bunch of connectivity features. Features like Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, A-GPS, GLONASS, FM Radio, Infrared and NFC. One M9 also supports the VoLTE connection that gives you LTE Cat6 speeds. There is a microUSB 2.0 port too on the bottom of the phone and next to that you have a 3.5mm Audio Jack and these two ports have not changed and remains on the same place. Talking about the power for the phone, the battery on the back is not replaceable as you cannot open up the back. There is a 2,840mAh battery that will provide power to the device.
Lastly coming on to the software features, the Sense UI is updated to the Sense 7.0 UI from Sense 6.0 with the new Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. There are some additions to the new Sense 7.0 UI featuring an improved version of Blinkfeed which now also gives you the timing for your meals. Now the user can create their own themes, choose the color, redesign the icons, choose your own sounds for notifications, select the different font and also tweak up the wallpaper for the homescreen. In addition to the Sense 7.0 UI, there is a new widget that suggests applications on the home screen according to your location. There is another new feature added to the Sense Ui 7.0 known as HTC Connect. You can swipe your three fingers on the screen to stream the media when you are connected to a location, you can stream videos and music with this gesture.
