Samsung Galaxy S6 vs Galaxy S6 Edge vs HTC One M9 Comparison Review

The Mobile World Congress 2015 took place at Barcelona this year and two big brands came forward to launch their own creations for this year. Samsung and HTC were the two tech giants who officially announced their rumored smartphones in the MWC 2015. HTC One M9 a successor to the HTC One M8 and from Samsung, Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.

HTC One M9:

This year HTC took a different route and tried giving us something that was actually unbelievable and uncalled from HTC. HTC revealed the RE Camera and another device was the HTC Grip a smart fitness band for serious athletes.

HTC One M9 is a heck of a beast when speaking of the specifications. When you look at the phone, it still resembles the HTC One M8 from last year. HTC One M9 has a dual tone metal design on the phone. The sides are absolutely amazing and offer a premium feel through its new design on the sides. On the front there is a 5.0 inch Full HD display with the resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The display is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4.

On the top of the phone there is an ultrapixel camera for better selfies in low light conditions. On the back, there’s a 20.0MP camera sensor with f/2.2 which is equipped with a Sapphire Glass above the sensor. There’s no more dual camera on the back as it were present in the predecessor. The back camera is capable of shooting 4K videos at 30 frames per second. It can also shoot slo-mo videos at the resolution of 720p with 120fps. Next to the camera there is a Dual LED flash too.

Talking about the power of the phone, HTC One M9 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset that is a 64bit system on chip with Octa core processor. It also comes with 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM for better and improved multitasking. The internal storage what you get out of the box is 32GB, but you can still expand the storage with the help of a microSD card and that too upto 128GB.

HTC One M9 also has front firing dual speakers. It has Dolby Audio support with HTC Boomsound technology. It also comes with Category 6 LTE network connectivity which will serve more speed. Other connectivity options like Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/c/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, IR Remote and USB 2.0 are also available. There is also a non replaceable 2,840mAh battery on the back for the powering the device.

Now talking about the software part, HTC One M9 comes with an updated Sense 7 UI and runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system. The new Sense 7 UI offers an improved Blinkfeed and gives more tweaking options to customize the homscreen of your device. One can change the wallpaper, customize app icons, change font and also can tweak the themes as one likes.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge:

Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge on the 1St of March at MWC 2015 in Barcelona. Samsung has changed the looks of the Galaxy series after a long time. This means both Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has new looks and paint job.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Edge now has metal constructed body and covers the front and the back of the phone entirely with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4 for protection from scratches. The all new design makes the phone more unique and gives a different feel when looked at. The 4 unique colors of the phone also give the phone a new touch of shine and gloss as the phone is completely made out of metal and glass.

Talking about the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, unlike the Note Edge both the sides of the phone is now curved. With the change in the design and looking at the phone aesthetically, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge gives a very unique look with both curved edges.

Both the new Samsung smartphones has a 5.1 inch QHD display which means the resolution of the phone is 1440 x 2560 pixel and gives you eye popping 576ppi density. The displays of both smartphones are rich and vibrant in colors due to its Super AMOLED display used on the phone. This display also helps you to have great viewing angles.  Also on the front you will find a 5.0MP wide angle camera for better selfies.

On the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, you can setup the colors for your contacts so that you can know who is calling you on the phone as the color will flash on the curved display side. You can assign 5 contacts at a time for flashing colors on the edges. The sound quality for both the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Edge is great. It’s loud and clear. The speakers are now located on the bottom, it’s not on the back nor on the front.

On the back, there’s a 16.0MP camera with Dual LED flash on the very next to the camera. Both the smartphones are equipped with the same 16.0MP sensor with f/1.9. Both smartphones can record videos at 4K that is 2160p that too in 30fps.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge are both powered by Exynos 7420 64bit 14nm system on chip. It’s an Octa core chipset that has 4 cores running at 1.5Ghz Cortex A-57 and 4 cores running at the clockspeed of 2.1Ghz at Cortex A-53. This is a powerful processor and can handle anything easily even if its, HD games, apps or 4K movies.

Both the smartphones comes with 3GB LPDDR4 RAM for better multitasking and also comes with three different storage options viz 32GB, 64GB and 128GB. Unfortunately there is no support for external SD card but if you want higher memory size you can just go for the 64GB or even for 128GB variant.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge come with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop preinstalled on the phone. The Samsung has also updated the TouchWiz UX for both the smartphones. The Edge does not loses the multi window feature with the new and upgraded body and design and family of series. Both the phones are now supported for wireless charging as both the devices are supported with WPC and PMA charging standards.

All three smartphones from HTC and Samsung has launched on the same date and it will take some time for them to come in to the stores for sales. But, both the company promised to put up their new smartphones for sale in April this year.

Conclusion:

By comparing all three devices, there is no straight winner. It is really tough to come to the point as both devices are now only be judged by their looks and specifications. The real answer will come after the review of both the device. The real performance reports will be out soon when the phone will be up there hanging on the shelves of the shops. Anyways, all three smartphones are quite heck of beast in terms of performance. It could be any one in between these three.
