Bill Murray Saves Miley Cyrus From F*cking Up His Huge Honor

Miley Cyrus screws up Bill MurrayMiley Cyrus was asked to honor Bill Murray, who received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, and it may not have been the best decision. During the Sunday night performance at the Kennedy Center, the singer had a minor slip-up, if forgetting the lyrics could be called minor.

“I smoked too much and forgot,” Miley explained. Bill wasn’t too upset about his former “A Very Murray Christmas” co-star screwing up his huge career moment and suggested the singer restart her performance.

“This is happening now in Washington, D.C. — the 51st state! If it had statehood, that wouldn’t have happened!” Bill said from his seat to keep the crowd laughing.

See how Miley’s f*ck up and Bill’s reaction below.

A Very Miley Christmas? – Miley Cyrus Performs Christmas Standards With Bill Murray And George Clooney

Miley Cyrus Bill Murray Christmas SpecialOriginally meant for just a cameo appearance and a single song in Bill Murray’s Netflix Christmas special, “A Very Murray Christmas,” Miley Cyrus ended up being critical to the production, arguably stealing the show with multiple appearances and three songs. In the final cut of the special that aired last night, Miley sings the Christmas classics. “Sleigh Ride,” “Let It Snow” and a soulful rendition of “Silent Night” that is being called by some the special’s most memorable moment.

Yesterday, Vanity Fair ran a piece reprinting quotes from costars Bill Murray and George Clooney raving about Miley’s part in the special – and her willingness to go beyond her original small role in ways that might have saved the special when rapper Rick Ross failed to show for the taping. Bill made headlines when he praised the “Dooo It!” singer, saying “It was stunning to work with her … She came through in a huge way for us.” And George called Miley ” fantastic and fun and a real pro.”

Miley Cyrus Sings Duet With Bill MurrayBill Murray’s Netflix Original Christmas special, “A Very Murray Christmas,” will premiere on December 4th and today the promo for the show was released. Directed by Sofia Coppola, the Christmas special will feature a long list of stars including George Clooney, Chris Rock, Amy Poehler, and Paul Shaffer. But the musical high point of the special will be a duet with Bill Murray and Miley Cyrus singing the classic Christmas song, “Let It Snow.”

While making the first Comic Con appearance of his career in July, Bill famously talked about working with Miley on the special and defended Miley’s talent saying, “Miley Cyrus is good. I was not particularly convinced [at first, but] Miley Cyrus is really f**kin’ good. She can really sing.” He also did an interview at the time with MTV and shared a story about her willingness to step in and sing “Silent Night” on short notice when the unnamed singer who was originally meant to perform never showed up for the taping.

Listen to a brief taste of Miley and Bill singing in the clip below. We also have a video of Bill’s interview with MTV from July in which he shares his feelings about Miley’s ability as a performer.
