Like It Or Not, ABC Says Raven-Symoné Is Here To Stay

Raven Symone View PetitionUnfortunately – at least for the the thousands who signed the petition to have Raven-Symoné fired from her co-hosting gig at ABC’s “The View ” – people are going to have to continue listening to the controversial star’s opinions.

Not long ago, the former “That’s So Raven” actress came under fire for her comments about being biased against hiring individuals with “unique,” racially-linked names. More recently her opinions on the Spring Valley High School incident caused controversy, when Raven at least suggested that the student who appears on film to have been manhandled by a police officer may have been partially responsible for the rough treatment that she faced.

The petition posted on Move.org has been signed by over 125,000 people and states the concerns of what seems to be a substantial number of African Americans. “Raven Symone has been spouting her ignorant and self hating spiel on the view for Long [sic] enough,” the petition states. Raven-Symoné Says Her Comments About Names Were “Spun Out of Control” But Also In “Poor Taste”

Last night Raven-Symoné took to her Facebook page to try to clarify her recent comments about people with unique – and by implication, racially-associated – names. The former child star began her statement by saying that her comments about discrimination were “spun out of control” before admitting that she has personally been denied jobs based on her skin color and body size in her past.

“Each time I was rejected, my self esteem was negatively effected, so i empathize with those who feel victimized by what I said,” she commented. Raven-Symoné goes on to admit that she shouldn’t be a part of the problem, but of the solution.

“My comment was in poor taste. My lack of empathy towards name discrimination was uncalled for.”

After her comments on “The View,” she was not only slammed by the fans, but even her own father felt obligated to criticize her comments, while still affirming his love for her.

Read the full apology below.

Do you think Raven-Symoné’s comments were “spun out of control?” Or do you think that maybe she didn’t initially realize how insensitive her comments really were?

Raven-Symoné Says “Some Dumb Sh*t” According To Her Dad

Raven-Symone-Dad-CommentsChristopher Pearman, father and former long-time manager of “The View” cohost Raven-Symoné, had some choice words about his daughter’s recent controversial comments on the show. After she said she wouldn’t hire someone with a ‘unique’ name – suggesting the types of names sometimes given in the African-American community – and also stated that she is personally “very discriminatory” about who she hires, Raven-Symoné’s father posted a formal response on his Facebook page.

In the post, he refers to his daughter as “a grown ass woman making grown ass mistakes,” that she “is responsible for her own words and actions,” and refers to the statement as an “inexcusable gaffe.”

However, he still points out Raven-Symoné’s long career with comparatively little trouble like this, and says that he and her mother love and support her. Although others might add that, even if not of this magnitude or about this exact subject, his daughter has not exactly been a stranger to making controversial statements about race and gender in the past.

Watch her original comments on the show and read her father’s full commentary below.

What do you think about Raven-Symoné’s statements? How about those of her father?

Raven-Symoné and Anneliese van der Pol Perform “That’s So Raven” Theme Song Live

ThatsSoRavenThemeSongFormer Disney star Anneliese van Der Pol recently performed her first full solo concert at club 54 Below in New York. Also in attendance was Anneliese’s “That’s So Raven” costar Raven-Symoné, who was in the audience to support her longtime friend. But after the crowd urged Raven-Symoné to join Anneliese on-stage, the two ladies treated the crowd to a live version of the “That’s So Raven” theme song.

When the crowd showed their appreciation for the performance, the two friends hugged before doing an encore of sorts – this time performing a cover of Michael Bublé’s arrangement for “That’s Life”.

You can watch the two perform in the fan video below.
