Miley Cyrus couldn’t make it the 2017 Teen Choice Awards on Sunday night. After a tweet from the award show’s official account made it sound like Miley was in the building, she ultimately bailed before her victory speech. That made things a little awkward when she was supposed to accept the Ultimate Choice Award, the show’s “highest honor” for a performer.
Victoria Justice had to announce that Miley had backed out of the show and Jake Paul had the unenviable task of being the viewer’s consolation prize. While the moment was an easy target for Twitter users, Miley took to Instagram to post about the cancellation. In what wasn’t quite an explanation or an apology, she laid out what kept her off the TCA stage.
“I am beyond bummed I couldn’t make it to the show as I had every intention of being there to accept and celebrate this honor!” she wrote in a new post. “I created an unrealistic schedule for myself which leads me to this announcement!” Miley went on to drop the news that a new single is coming out off her new album this Friday.
“I’ve been tryin to keep the secret but I can’t hide it any longer!” Miley wrote before announcing that “Younger Now,” the title track off the up-coming release, will be out by the end of the week. “I am sooooooo EXCITED to share it with all of you! I hope to always make people smile and shine light thru my work!”
Miley also wrote that she’s sending “so much love and peace into the world right now because THATS what we need most! Love Love & more LOVE!” Maybe the weekend’s bad news was too much for Miley to handle ahead of the Sunday night show.
