Sony Xperia Z3 Compact Review

Sony has planned a smart strategy to rule the market with its new flagship. Recently this month Sony launched its high-end segment smartphone Sony Xperia Z3 and now lined up with compact version of Xperia Z3. Sony has set name for its updated smartphones. It started with Sony Xperia Z1 and its compact version and reached till Xperia Z3 compact. Sony announced its Xperia Z2 six months before and in less time it came up with new Xperia Z series model following with its compact version.

If you notice the market trend in smartphones, you will come to a point that every smartphone is boasting itself with huge screen and refined display properties. It started with qHD display and world has moved up to Ultra HD display feature in its smartphone. LG G3 and Samsung Note 4 is the phone with huge screen and powerful display properties but recently launched Sony is given with huge display but display properties are not up to the mark. In this tuff competitive environment Sony came up with its Z3 compact version which includes 720p display. Let’s reach out to each and every section of Z3 compact to know it better.

Design & Packaging:

Why Sony call Z3 compact as mediocre phone as it is priced same as high-end segment smartphones but posses features of mediocre segment smartphone. Sony has degraded its Xperia Z3 in terms of size and built-up feature but still Sony has managed to provide good and handy smartphone which portrays good looks and provides better grip in hand. Compare to Z1 compact new flagship by Sony is improved drastically with Sony’s Omnibalance design architecture in design section. Sony has removed metal frame from Z3 compact which was found in Xperia Z3 but do have glass panels which elevates the looks of Z3 compact.


Coming to the front face of the smartphone, housed with screen, front facing camera, Sony branding, sensors, earpiece and loudspeakers. Arrangement of the mentioned hardware are as follow display is placed in the middle with slim bezel space and above the display is packed with earpiece on the top, Sony branding below earpiece, sides of the branding is given with front facing camera, status LED and sensors of the phone. Space below display is given with loudspeaker of the phone and buttons like Home, Menu and Back is included in display itself.

Sony Z3 Compact

Sides of the phone lacks metal frame but Sony justifies well and is arranged with hardware buttons like round Power key, tiny Volume rocker buttons and dedicated camera key on the right. Dock connector, microUSB port and microSD card slot is covered under flap and separate flap for nano-SIM on left side. Back panel of the phone is glassy and upper shelf of back is arranged with camera unit, centre space is given for Sony branding and below space has Xperia branding.


Upper shelf of phone has 3.5mm audio jack and below side has lanyard eyelet and primary microphone. Phone is insured with IP68 certification which allows your phone to resist from dust and water for 1.5m for 30minutes. Sony is planning to release PS4 connectivity for Xperia Z3 series and it will soon brag this November.

Display / Screen:

Xperia Z3 compact is featuring with IPS HD LCD display on 4.6-inch display. Resolution of Z3 compact is 720p with 319ppi pixel density. Display properties of Z3 Compact are good but fall in mediocre segment smartphone. Display is good and is capable of producing crisp and vibrant color reproduction. Major update made by Sony is shifting from TFT to IPS LCD technology and this innovation has helped Sony to produce more vibrant output of display.

Sony has made use of its traditional X-Reality engine with Triluminous display but to offer stunning brightness level Sony has made use of Live Color LEDs incorporated into the panel. Viewing angles in every Sony Xperia Z series is amazing and so do is carried in Z3 Compact. Display section is good but only problem is 720p screen and less pixel density.
