HTC Desire 820 Review

Camera Quality:

For every high end phone camera quality matters a lot. This is the second most important thing that comes after display. And then comes the hardware part. If a phablet is not capable of giving you good camera quality then its usage gets limited. You won’t be enjoying any great benefits on it. HTC Desire 820 holds a 13MP camera on the backside. Compare to HTC Desire 816 which was holding an 8MP camera. This boosts the photo an divide quality a lot more. And today we are crazy about taking selfies. Taking care of that HTC added a 8MP camera on the front side. Thus making your front photos and video HD.

HTC Desire 820 Camera

This is somehow a great features. When you click photos, most of the things are taken care by the Camera app. HTC tweak the UI and gives you a productive platform to work. The camera quality is great here. Because the rear camera is supported by Sense camera technology. You will be amazed to see the picture quality. The same is applicable for videos. You have to put a high storage SD card to get HD videos on it. The internal space will be used up really fast.

Hardware & Performance :

HTC Desire 820 being an extreme phone must have something that can surprise the buyers. There is already a very tough competition in the market where the demand for hardware keeps on rising up. And no one wants to buy a phone which is less effective when it comes to gaming and application usage. Multi-tasking is a serious concern. But somehow HTC is managed to make this phone a bit ahead of its predecessor HTC Desire 816.

This phone runs on an Octa-core CPU which makes it a very powerful model. The device is powered by Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 cpu. This is a good cpu that is nicely handles different app usage. HTC has kept 64b it platform aside. This is a new trend that many high end hones are equipped with started by Apple first. I do not really think you need a very high hardware which ultimately cause issue with the battery life.

There is one issue here. Android Lollipop OS supports a 64bit platform. There is no clear confirmation yet that, this OS can work on 32bit hardware also. We have to wait whether HTC Desire 820 will get a Lollipop update or it will come pre-installed with that. Right now this models comes with Kitkat and there is no release for the Lollipop OS. We hope that it will come but I am doubtful. Because of this 64bit hardware and HTC Desire 820 is not 64bit device.

HTC-Desire_820Open thing that I commonly find in many high end phone is related to overheating. This annoys me a bit, but it is still ok. If you use the phone for long time and when you run various apps and games the phone will get heated soon giving you problem. The same issue is in HTC Desire 820. It gets heated and you cannot hold it. It is good to add a back cover to avoid that.

Heating does not mean the phone is damage. It is a comm. bug. But this must be improved because it is common that if we are having a Octa Core phone then we will be using it a lot. Further with octa core cpu the phone also has 2GB RAM. I think that will be enough. And it is also having a decent graphic chip that is Adreno 330. I will not say that this one is the best one because still there are good chips but it is enough to play games. HTC offers a 16GB internal storage in the phone among which around 10.1GB is free to use. And it comes with al type of common connectivity options.

Battery Backup:

HTC Desire 820 has a 26000 mAh battery. The hone works well if you are not just using it much. This means if your usage is limited then it won’t be a complicated part. I am always impressed with HTC battery life. If you keep your internet off then it can be used well for entire day. Because there are certain apps and feeds which keeps on updating and eat more battery.

You can use a battery optimizer app to extend the usage. But if you play games a lot then the phone consume more power. And it is an obvious situation. If you are travelling and will be using camera a lot then it is best to have a portable charger with you.

Conclusion:

HTC Desire 820 is a good model according to me. The only concern is Lollipop update. It will be really sad if HTC won’t provide the same. And I am doubtful about that because of the hardware architecture. But somehow HTC Desire 820 proves to be a good model for photography, gaming and multimedia. It is also having a decent battery life. This phone cost around Rs.25000 approx which can be a good competitor to beat Moto X type of models. It gives you more camera, better screen quality and amazing features through HTC Sense UI.

Pros:

  • Premium build quality
  • Louf Front speakers
  • Vivid display
  • 64-bit Architecture

Cons:

  • Rear camera not as good as expected
  • Slippery Grip
