Sony Xperia Z3 Got Android N Developer Preview – First Non-Nexus Phone
We all know Android N is the next update we are about to get. Google has already revealed Android N first Developer Preview back in March and Developer Preview 2 recently, as usual, for selective Nexus Devices. Surprisingly Sony Xperia Z3 today get the Android N Developer Preview too, making it the first ever Non-Nexus device eligible for any such Android preview. If you are having this Sony model with you, well, you are just minutes away to test out the new taste of Android on your phone. Just make sure, you are using Z3 D6603 or Z3 D6653.
Another surprise is, although being 2014’s Flagship, Xperia Z3 getting Android N. While Xperia Z5 is nowhere being latest Flagship. Anyways. Getting Android N Developer Preview on your Sony Xperia Z3 is pretty simple, using Xperia Companion (v1.1.24 or later). You can check the complete step-by step procedure in this guide for flashing Android N on your phone.
Once you install this developer preview, you get the following new features:
Multi-window – This new multitasking feature lets users view two apps or Activities at the same time, with the system resizing them as needed to fit the device or tablet screen. All apps targeting Android N are resizeable unless they opt-out, so make sure your layouts and resources are optimized.
Bundled notifications – You can use the Notification.Builder.setGroup() method to group your app’s notifications together for easier scanning.
Direct reply notifications – Use the RemoteInput notification API to enable users to respond quickly to notifications, without leaving the notification shade.
Efficiency – Adapt your apps to use Doze to save even more power in Android N. There are also new behaviors in Project Svelte, aiming to reduce the memory needs of Android.
